Certificate of competence for LGV drivers On 10th September 2009 a new Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) scheme came into effect for UK drivers of larger goods and passenger carrying vehicles (LGV/PCV drivers). The new scheme requires new drivers to acquire an initial CPC in addition to their licence (a C1, C1+E, C or C+E licence). Existing drivers are exempt from this requirement but must complete their periodic Driver CPC by September 2014. The new scheme will require drivers to pass a CPC theory test, which will consist of 19 LGV case studies, and a Driver practical test. For category C and D licence holders they must complete 35 hours of periodic training within the following 5 years to keep their Driver CPC valid. To find an approved test centre please see the CPC website at www.drivercpcperiodictraining.org
